What is EPOS?

EPOS is an acronym for “Electronic Point of Sale”.  This is technology which enables an efficient recording of the sale of goods or services to the customer.

What is NFC?

NFC stands for “Near Field Communication” which is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimetres. Present and anticipated applications include contactless transactions and data exchange.

What’s the difference between open and closed payment?

Open payment links the customers’ payment device directly to a credit or debit card, taking payment directly from their card each time they purchase. Closed payment allows customers to pre-load funds into a spending account that is then linked to the payment device, with the user being able to monitor the balance of the account and keep it topped up.

What are the advantages of a closed payment system?

This type of system offers you full visibility and control of your customer data, enabling you to see all transactions at any time. For the user it offers many benefits including faster checkout, pre-ordering and loyalty incentives.

Can you accept both open and closed payment methods?

Yes, our cashless solutions include options for chip and pin/contactless payment and cash, so that your operation can accept payment using any of those methods.

Our site uses a RFID card for access control - can it be used for cashless?

Our payment readers are compatible with many of the main RFID technologies out there so they can be seamlessly integrated into your existing setup, meaning your staff won’t need to change their current access card, fob or wristband.

What options do you offer for loading funds onto your card?

Our system can provide electronic loading using your debit/credit card via our web portal, mobile or customer terminals located in your building, we can also provide on-site coin and note loading options.

Do cashless systems really reduce queues?

Absolutely – cashless can process transactions up to 5 times quicker than cash which is guaranteed to get your queues moving. Also with our options for self-service units and multiple VMC payment readers per till you can also expect further savings and efficiencies across your wider operation.

Can a cloud-based system be provided?

Yes - our management software can be configured as a fully cloud based solution hosted off site by VMC, or it can be set up on your own servers in-house.

I’m unable to network all my vending machines, can they still work on cashless?

Yes, the VMC system can work from a stored value purse, so does not always need the equipment to be networked.

What happens if the network goes down or the server fails?

As the VMC system can work from a stored value purse, payments can continue to take place and the detail can then be recovered later using our handheld digital management device. Our fully networked solutions also have offline capability meaning you will never have to worry about stopping service in the of a network failure.

Can the cashless system manage hospitality payments?

Yes – we have a number of options for managing hospitality from departmental cards linked to cost centres, to budget accounts at the till point.

Can my bean to cup coffee machine work as cashless?

Yes – our payment readers can be configured to operate with many different types of service machine, please contact us for more details.

Can we offer a loyalty scheme?

Yes – our back office software offers customisable loyalty schemes to suit different environments.

Can you load using a smartphone?

Yes – the VMC mobile portal can be accessed from any mobile browser on any IOS, Android or Windows phone platform.

Can you deduct funds directly from payroll?

Yes – we have a number of schemes to suit different environments which can run both on mobile devices and small touch screen terminals located on your premises.

Can you work with our existing tills?

In many cases yes, we work with a number of third party suppliers – please contact us for further details.

Can we transfer balances from our existing system?

Yes – we have a number of options available to transfer existing balances so your workforce does not lose out through a change of provider.
